Advocacy is defined as any action that speaks in favor of, recommends, argues for a cause, supports or defends, or pleads on behalf of others. Advocacy is an activity by an individual or group that aims to influence decisions within political, economic, and social institutions. Advocacy includes activities and publications to influence public policy, laws, and budgets by using facts, their relationships, the media, and messaging to educate government officials and the public.
There is also Self-Advocacy, the individual’s ability to effectively communicate, convey, negotiate, or assert his or her own interests, desires, needs, and rights.
Below is a list of resources to assist you in advocating for yourself and for others. If there is an organization you are aware of that is not included please email SJA@ucf.edu in the subject line ATTN: additional resource info.
